Frequently Asked Questions

Everything Green Bay homeowners want to know before removing popcorn ceilings.

How much does popcorn ceiling removal cost in Green Bay?+

Most single-room projects in Green Bay run $450–$1,200, while whole-home removals fall between $4,200 and $6,800. Pricing depends on square footage, ceiling height, asbestos testing needs, and finish quality. We provide firm, fixed quotes at no charge, and the number on your quote is the number you pay — no surprise add-ons midway through the project.

Do popcorn ceilings in Green Bay contain asbestos?+

Any popcorn ceiling installed before 1985 may contain asbestos. Federal law banned asbestos in ceiling texture that year, but existing stock was used for several more years. We always recommend a $95 lab test on pre-1985 Green Bay homes before scraping begins. Testing takes about 48 hours and gives you documented proof that your ceiling is safe to remove — or, if positive, a clear plan for certified abatement.

How long does the process take?+

A typical bedroom takes one day. A living room takes one to two days. A full 1,800 sq ft home takes about 5–7 days, including drying time between skim, sanding, primer, and paint coats. We schedule most rooms in a single continuous stretch so you're not living around plastic sheeting for weeks.

Is the process really dust-controlled?+

We use full plastic containment, floor and vent sealing, and HEPA air scrubbers running continuously. Some fine dust is unavoidable in scraping, but roughly 99% is captured before leaving the work area. Homeowners routinely tell us their furniture, kitchen counters, and closets stayed cleaner than they expected.

Can I stay in my home during the work?+

Yes. Most homeowners stay in unaffected areas of the home. We seal the work zone completely. For whole-home projects, some families prefer to stay elsewhere for 2–3 days during the messiest phase — especially if there are toddlers or anyone with respiratory sensitivities in the household.

Do I need to move furniture?+

We move heavy furniture to the center of the room and cover it with plastic. We recommend homeowners remove small valuables, wall art, mirrors, ceiling-mounted light fixtures with fragile glass, and electronics from the work area beforehand.

What kind of finish will my ceiling have?+

Our default is a smooth Level-5 finish — the highest drywall finish level, ideal for modern homes and rooms with lots of natural light or LED downlights. We also offer knockdown, orange peel, and skip-trowel textures on request for homeowners who want a subtle textured look without the dated popcorn appearance.

Do you offer a warranty?+

Yes. Every ceiling we refinish comes with a 5-year written workmanship warranty. If a seam cracks or a skim area fails within that time from our work, we return and fix it at no charge.

How soon can you start?+

We usually book projects 2–4 weeks out. For smaller single-room jobs we sometimes have earlier openings, and we always try to accommodate emergency water damage repairs the same week. Email rowanblake100@gmail.com for our current schedule.

Do you paint the ceiling after removing the popcorn?+

Yes — priming and two coats of premium ceiling paint are included in every quote. You get a completely finished ceiling, not an unpainted skim coat. If you want a specific tinted white or a warm off-white, we're happy to color-match at no extra cost.

Will removing popcorn ceilings increase my home value?+

Green Bay real estate agents we work with report that smooth ceilings can add 3–8% to sale price, especially on 1970s–90s homes. It's one of the highest-ROI interior upgrades short of a kitchen remodel, and it makes every subsequent photo, showing, and open house significantly better.

What if my ceiling has water damage or cracks?+

That's very common — many popcorn ceilings hide old roof leaks, ice-dam staining, or hairline cracks from house settling. We include minor drywall repair and stain sealing in our standard quote. Larger repairs (sagging sheetrock, replaced sections) are itemized separately so you see exactly what you're paying for.

Do you cover the entire Green Bay metro area?+

Yes. We work throughout Green Bay, De Pere, Ashwaubenon, Howard, Suamico, Allouez, Bellevue, Hobart, Pulaski, and out into Kaukauna and Little Chute for larger multi-room projects. If you're not sure whether we serve your neighborhood, just email us your address and we'll confirm within the hour.
